Quote

"Warning The "Block images and other external content in HTML e-mail" option is a security feature that has been included in Windows XP SP2 to protect your computer against junk e-mail (spam).

We recommend that you do not turn off this option.
Click Start, point to Programs, and then click Outlook Express.
On the Tools menu, click Options, and then click the Security tab.
Click to clear the Block images and other external content in HTML e-mail check box.
Click Apply, and then click OK."

If you don't want to turn the option off permanently, open the e-mail and then go to view and click on blocked images which should then show them.

Browsers

How can I stop popups?

There are several free pop-up stoppers available.

My favourite is the google toolbar.
Yahoo also offer a free companion which can stop pop-ups.
Pop Up Manager is free for personal use and works in IE 5 + 6.

Browsers such as Mozilla and Opera offer their own pop-up stoppers.
IE add-ons such as Avant Browser & Myie2 also contain popup stoppers along with other features such as tabbed browsing.

Continuous pop-ups could be indicative that you are infected with a virus or malware,
Follow the instructions in the security help page.

My Browser start page has changed and I keep getting pop-ups for x sites.

It is most likely that your browser has been hijacked.
Follow the instructions in my help page here.

The font size of my browser has gone large/small.

Change the settings from your browsers menu bar.
View >>> Text size.

Another setting that can change your font size is:-
Control Panel >>> Accessibility Options >>> Display Tab.
Using "High Contrast" will set the font size large.

Security

Where can I get Free Anti-Virus software?

Check out my page here.

Do I need anti-virus software and a firewall?

Yes!

AV programs only provide protection against virii and worms etc.
A Firewall protects against unauthorised access into your PC from hackers.
More info here.

What is spyware/malware.

This could be something as simple as a tracking cookie which will send information back to a site about other websites you visit. It could also be an application that causes your PC/browser to perform in strange ways and send information back to the author about your PC.
More info here.

I already have Anti-Virus Protection on my PC should I install another?

No!

It is not advisable to have two different AV's running on one PC as this often causes application conflicts.

If you have a decent AV program on your PC and you make sure the virus patterns are kept up to date, there is no need to install another.

Windows Issues

Since Using Adaware to Remove Spyware From My PC , I cant access the internet.

Certain LSP install a file onto your PC and the removal of this malware can cause TCP/IP to "break".
See my page on repairing TCP/IP here.
