not the cheapest but I have an 8mb connection [max available according to BT due to alloy wires not copper]
rarely drops below this and often clocks in around 8.75

Originally with NDO which changed to Namesco. I bit expensive but always get a good speed and never drops. Prodect subscribe to is HomeMax+ Broadband (60GB usage) Tech Support really good + they know their product which helps

Having tried "up-to-8Meg" with much help from Namesco I reverted to fixed 2Meg line and have very few dips in speed.Service (rarely needed) is excellent.Offering a 1 month rolling contract is a sign of their confidence.
